Q. What is Tanen Homes?
A. We are a family-owned custom home building company. Tanen Homes was founded by Nathan and Melvin Tanen in 1957. Harry Tanen, Nathan’s son, incorporated Tanco Construction Co. Inc. (operating as Tanen Homes) in 1981. Today, Harry and his brother Joel Tanen continue to practice the principals of the founders: produce quality work, ensure superior craftsmanship and provide excellent customer service. It was Nathan’s belief that if you’re going to do something, do it right the first time. Harry and Joel continue to embrace that concept.

Q. Why choose Tanen Homes over another builder?
A. Our president and a state general contractor, Harry, has years of experience, supervises all aspects of construction and only uses the best tradesmen. He has a personal interest in your satisfaction. We will work with you from start to finish, ensuring you are completely satisfied through each step of construction.

Q. I want a custom home. How do I start?
A. Our sales associate, LouAnne Caputo, and our drafting team will help you figure out what home is right for you. Our model home is a great place to start. You can view our home every day of the week, and feel free to drop by or call for an appointment. We can help you navigate the building process, including finding a property to build on, financing, and customizing your home.

Q. How long does it take to build a house?
A. Depending on the size of the house, we estimate it will take approximately 8 months to complete. This process begins with pouring the foundation and ends when we obtain a certificate of occupancy.

Q. Can your existing home plans be changed to my specifications?
A. We will gladly alter our floor plans and elevations to ensure your home is exactly the way you want it. All our plans are drawn in-house by our drafting team, and there is no charge to change the plans.

Q. I already have my own set of plans. Will you build a house from them?
A. We will build from any plans that a customer provides as long as they are engineered and ready for submission to the building department. Please be aware that we cannot build a home that infringes on copyright law. For example, if you love your neighbor’s home and want the same plan, you must obtain permissions before we can legally build that house.

Q. Can you help me find a lot to build on?
A. We work with licensed realtors who can assist you in finding a lot. Our sales associate LouAnne Caputo is also a licensed realtor with Remax Prestige Realty, and she has years of experience in lot acquisition. She can help you find the perfect piece of land to build your custom home on.

Q. If I find a lot on my own without your assistance, will you look at the lot before I purchase it?
A. We will happily look at your lot. We can also offer our professional opinions regarding how much fill dirt is required for the house pad; where to place the house; and the size ofhouse that is appropriate for your lot.

Q. Can you help me with financing?
A. There are several lenders whom we can recommend, and we will assist you throughout the entire process.

Q. Can I choose features such as colors, counter tops, cabinets and tile?
A. Some large building companies, called tract builders, will only provide minimal choices in terms of inside dcor. At Tanen Homes, our customers can choose everything from paint colors to lighting to door knobs. You can customize every aspect of your home. You can paint your living room hot pink if that’s what you like. We are here to build your vision.
